Tusk & Tenon is a custom, handmade woodworking small business. The client themselves had created a similar previous wordmark but hired me to spruce it up, add an icon, and create a brand guide.
They had a pretty clear direction they wanted to go with color palette, but they were open to ideas on the icon. Through the exploration phase, the client informed me of what a tenon joint is in woodworking. A tenon joint is defined as "a projection on the end of a timber for insertion into a mortise. Usually, the tenon is taller than it is wide." This definition is the main inspiration for the final icon.
